Writing

One of my favorite pen pals, who hails from the high plains of Colorado, sends me notes of mutual interest -- pioneer history, old movie lore, local food movement and so on. I usually take forever to reply to him, not because I don't want to, but because growing up and living far from extended family, or having a dad stationed in far off posts, I was always writing letters -- prolifically. It's difficult for me to jot short notes -- almost impossible. Hence, when someone writes me (this also includes our Aussie friend, Robert), I am remiss with prompt replies. And I actually love their notes -- either a friendly sentiment or some interesting information is always welcome. Not to mention the possibility of travel in their direction someday.

But I digress. The reason I have now taken much longer than normal to reply to Abuelo is his doing. This time he sent me down the Rabbit Hole. Never send a history/information geek to a site like Smithsonian or a cool Soddy from the past. Unless you don't care about hearing from them again. Because that is one of the rabbit holes I do not return from anytime soon.
